My ammumma (maternal grandma) made the best corn flour halwa using custard powder and I can still taste it at the tip of my tongue although it has been more than 2 decades. I have fond memories of relishing this Karachi Halwa, not quite knowing its name at my maternal grandparents’ place. Again, not with this easy and simple Karachi Halwa. The traditional halwa recipes are made from the milk extracted from wheat and it is a long process that is labor intensive. I just used 2 tablespoon of ghee for a whole lot of halwa and it still turned out amazing! As you can guess from the name of this halwa, it is made from corn flour. Karachi Halwa, also known as Bombay Halwa is an exception to it. Given my weakness for sweets, it is better avoided. But with the insane amounts of ghee that goes into making this dessert, I have always restrained myself from trying it at home. I am starting off this with a really simple but extremely delicious sweet recipe – Karachi Halwa. This year too, I have new recipes lined up to be shared with you all. Deepavali or Diwali is the festival of lights celebrated all over India and this year, it falls on Oct 27 th or 28 th depending on which part of India you are from □ As Deepavali is one of my most favorite festivals, I plan elaborate sweets and savories well in advance. This will not only make your dish look appetising but at the same time, it will add to the taste.Super quick recipe to make Karachi Halwa, also known as Bombay Halwa with detailed step-wise pictures. If you like it creamier, you can add some fresh cream. Garnish this delicious North Indian paneer recipe with chopped coriander leaves and grated paneer. Take two cubes and grate them for garnishing. While the gravy is being cooked, cut the paneer into cubes and keep it aside till required. Bring it to a boil or till the gravy thickens. Now, heat the remaining ghee in another pan and add the ground gravy in it along with red chilli powder, garam masala powder, cashew and almond paste along with salt. Step 3 Add paneer cubes in the gravy and cook for 3-5 minutes.When it's cool enough, add it to a mixer jar and blend till smooth and keep aside. When the gravy is cooked, let it cool down at room temperature. Then, add the beaten curd, cook for another 5 minutes and pour a cup of water into the pan. Add the tomato puree and cover the pan with a lid. Add the chopped onions, ginger, green chillies along with green cardamoms for 4 to 5 minutes. Next, put a pan on medium flame and heat 3 tbsps of ghee in it. Step 2 Prepare onion-tomato gravy using curd.Now, grind cashews and almonds separately using a little water and make cashew and almond paste. ![]() This will make your recipe more aromatic. To make this recipe more delicious, you can dry roast the spices separately and then add them to the gravy. If you are in a hurry, you can also use tomato puree instead of chopped tomatoes. Now in a bowl, add the curd and whisk it well. To prepare this creamy shahi paneer recipe, chop the onion, green chillies, tomatoes along with ginger and coriander leaves separately. ![]()
